Men Like Us By Matthew Mangelsdorf

Here is a question for all the men listening to my podcast:

Are you the man your partner, your wife, or your children are proud of?
Are you the man who genuinely tries to be the best version of himself? Do these people look at you and feel proud to have you in their lives?

I hope so. But if you’re not there yet… you’re not alone.

Here in South Australia, I grew up around mate-ship, footy, motorbikes, pub sessions, a few darts out the back, and perhaps the odd brownie. I thought this is how it is — this is how I live my life — and I am alright. But the truth is, I wasn’t always alright. A lot of us aren’t. We just don’t say it.

My Mission

My podcast is about calling out the things we’ve normalised — the booze, drugs, gambling, fitness and health, and our behaviour towards our families, children, partners, and community. If we are not actively moving towards healthier habits and awareness, we deal with the mental health spirals that follow.

The bottom line is:
Men tell the truth.
Men face their shit.
Men speak up — especially when it’s uncomfortable.

Because this isn’t just about pain — it’s about what comes after.

Honest Conversations

We’re going to talk honestly — about relationships, about the women in our lives, and what it means to be emotionally present even if no one showed us how. We’ll talk about boundaries — not just to protect ourselves, but to make the people around us feel safe.

Masculinity isn’t the problem. The problem is the version we were sold — tough. Silent. Unfeeling. Unquestioned masculinity.

My podcast is about becoming dangerous — not to the people we love, but to the lies we’ve believed for too long. And this… is just the beginning.

What to Expect

I’m planning on producing many episodes. We’ll go deep — into addiction, identity, grief, love, fatherhood, failure, faith, and everything in between. I have so many stories I will share. I’ll sit down with people who’ve walked through fire and come out the other side.

This isn’t about blame. It’s about breaking the cycle. And here’s the thing — it’s not all darkness. There’s a new day ahead. There’s a fresh start. A chance to become the kind of men our families can count on. The kind of fathers, brothers, mates, and partners who show up — fully, honestly, and with heart.

Gratitude

Before I go, I want to say two things:

First, a huge thank you to Rob Hart for generously sharing his knowledge and helping me with the finer details of getting my podcast off the ground. Your guidance has been invaluable.

Also, a massive thank you to Sean Craig Murphy from Fresh FM. Sean, your training gave me the practical skills to launch my podcast — and just as importantly, the confidence to keep going when things got tough.

Lastly, I have a small favour to ask all of you:
If you enjoy the podcast, please share it and hit subscribe. Every listen counts, and that data helps me understand my audience and what topics resonate most. Your support means the world.
